Providing opportunities within the Cummins Graduate Development Scheme is an essential part of our strategy to develop the skills base with our organisation and most sites offer such opportunities.
Most of the UK sites offer a wide range of placement positions and priority is given to then looking to provide successful placement students with graduate trainee positions once they graduate. Therefore we are particularly interested in hearing from students who need a placement year and who are looking to have a career in a global manufacturing business. All of our main sites are near to major cities (Birmingham, Newcastle, Leeds) so you can continue to have an active "student social life!
Our positions are available to all applicants, primarily in the engineering disciplines. Help will be provided where possible to anyone who wants to gain Chartered status.
What are we looking for in our applicants?
Engineering students aiming towards a 2.1 or higher, BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering are particularly sought after. Other subjects suitable for our positions include, aeronautical, automotive or manufacturing engineering, also Computer Aided Engineering and Business Studies.
In all cases for graduate positions, we have a preference for graduates who have undertaken a 4 year programme including a years work experience in a manufacturing or commercial environment. If your degree had shorter work placements, then again we will be looking for relevant experience.
As Cummins are a Global company, we also take great pride in offering opportunities for career moves to any of the 14 countries in which we have main sites. For this, we are keen to look for graduates with a second language and/or experience of other countries and cultures. However more importantly, the emphasis you place on commitment and dedication to your career aspirations plus your people skills, combined with a natural communication style are the attributes that will determine the speed with which you progress.
