Joana joined Cummins as a Placement Project Manager in the Peterborough CBS-IT site. “I am a one year placement student for CBS-IT as a Project Manager”. What she does now Manage server replacement projects, organise all the charity events, assist Projects, such as Branch relocations. Produce some of the admin work for the projects which I assist on. In the future when I gain more confidence and knowledge will the run my own small projects. What she loves about the company and the job. “Everyone at the office and within Cummins is really friendly, approachable and ready to help. What I love the most is that this placement is a real job; I have real roles and responsibilities. Training is given to help placement students gain the skills required to carry out. Cummins is like a big family, everyone helps and motivates each other.” Where this job may lead After the placement experience Joana is going back to university and hopes to join Cummins Graduate scheme as a Project Manager. Name: Anthony French Age: 25 Job Title: Engineer - Product Environbmental Management Degree: BEng (Hons) Automotive Manufacturing, Coventry University Getting the Job "After two years of study and Coventry University I completed an Industrial placement at Cummins, located at the Darlington site working in the manufacturing support department. During the year long placement my work was focused on a number large scale manufacturing engineering projects. On completion of this placement year a bursary was awarded to me for high achievement. In addition to the bursary I was also offered a contract to return as a graduate on completion of my final year of study at university. " What he does now "Having completed a two year rotational graduate contract in Darlington, I took a permanent engineers job working in the Product Environmental Management department. My responsibility is to ensure that all Cummins engines produced for use within Europe are certified to the required emissions standards. This is very important because without emissions certification Cummins would not be able to sell engines. I am now regarded as one of the main contacts in Europe for all emissions and certification related problems. I am also part of the IMechE MPDS scheme and aim to achieve chartered engineers status within the next two years. " What he loves about the company and the job "People at Cummins are always enjoyable to work with and there is a strong team spirit throughout the company. I have been lucky enough to be able to travel internationally during my time at Cummins and there are clear opportunities for further travel assignments and potentially re-location in the future if desired. My managers have strongly supported any training or further studies required to build up my working knowledge and I am currently completing part time MSc engineering studies with the Open University. The flexible working hours offered at the Darlington site make it easy to manage my time around any commitments outside of work. I have been very well supported throughout my career so far at Cummins, it is clear to me that my ambitions and aspirations are made possible by the number of opportunities that exist within the company. " Where this job may lead "When I am ready to progress from my current role, there are numerous engineering options available, either within Darlington Mid-range Technical Operations or potentially any other Cummins entity around the world. Cummins’ strong global presence means that a foreign assignment is made possible if you are ambitious enough to go for it. The strong engineering presence within the company means there is a wide range of technical area’s to strive for. It is common to see people transition to entirely new roles within the engineering organisation in order to provide them with a new challenge and help them to broaden their knowledge."

Maggie joined Cummins as a graduate product engineer working in the engineering department of the Cummins Power Generation plant in Stamford. As an engineering graduate, she always wanted to pursue a career in engineering. "I was initially impressed with the comprehensive Cummins graduate scheme. It not only offered the opportunity to work in engineering, but also provided invaluable experience by rotating in different departments, getting to see how a global business works as a whole."
As a Global Product Engineer, Maggie is the first line contact for a nominated global engineering team, communicating and ensuring local and global VPC requests are understood and implemented, investigating, reviewing and removing bottlenecks to achieve the convergence plan. Maggie facilitates global procurement, supply and distribution of alternators (MPS) and piece parts, working closely with the global teams, ensuring the GSP built intents are fully defined/clear. She also provides day to day engineering support for the Stamford manufacturing and operations facilities while continuing to facilitate and encourage the communication of engineering data & knowledge between the different regions. What she loves about the company and the job "I really enjoy working here in such a diverse environment where people are friendly and helpful. Also, Cummins genuinely cares about its employees’ development by providing different trainings where needed. The comprehensive training plans truly help with both career and personal development." Every 6 months Maggie attended intensive graduate training with other graduates. ‘Launching my career at Cummins is the best decision I have ever made.”
Where this job may lead Having completed her 2 years graduate Maggie has now moved into a Global Product Engineering position liaising with plants in other countries and looking forward to challenges her new role will bring.

What she does now

Omer joined Cummins as a Finance Graduate at the Stamford Plant. He was the first Finance Graduate in his department and had many exciting challenges ahead of him. "The two year graduate scheme offered a lot more in terms of experience and opportunities then any of the competitors. It met my expectations of the role I wanted to take after graduating. The overall package offered by Cummins gave me the perfect start"
What he does now
As Finance graduate Omer is a business partner for different functions within the Company. "My role provides with me different challenges everyday, it allows me to communicate with colleagues at all levels of the organisation locally and globally. As Finance supports different functions of the business it has exposed me to various areas of the organisation which has increased my knowledge and understanding of Cummins immensely".
What he loves about the company and the job
"The job has exceeded my expectations in all aspects. The working environment is full of energy and open to new ideas. Cummins has a diverse workforce full of different cultures and background. Throughout my time at Cummins I have been given the relevant training and experience which has enabled me to become a qualified Accountant with ACCA." Omer engages with other graduates on training as well as on social events. He has also started his Six Sigma (Green Belt) certification.
Where this job may lead
During the 2 year scheme Omer has gained valuable experience and qualification which will provide him with various opportunities. This will allow him to get a senior analyst role within Finance or any other part of the organisation.
